I have talked many times about The Vesuvio Bar, however there is one more favorite bar in San Francisco, called simply the Saloon. It is supposed to be the oldest bar in town, from the late 1800s. If the Vesuvio is the bar for the beatniks, this is the bar for their cousins from the countryside.
The bartender, who probably worked there since late 1800s, doesn't ask for ID, she asks if you are 21. Takes your word for it. And the best thing about the place is the music. They have live music with amazing musicians, who probably started playing in the late 1800s.
